SILVER SPRING, MARYLAND
Ewing Cole Architects is currently working on an expansion of the United Therapeutics hospital located in Silver Spring, MD. The 210,000 SF elliptical shaped “Unisphere” is the largest site Net Zero commercial building in the US and houses clinical operations for pulmonary disease, heart failure, and organ transplantation.
BüroEhring worked closely with curtain wall fabricator Frener & Reifer on the building’s custom glass curtain wall system. BE provided thermal and condensation risk analysis for the curtain wall, in order to meet the building’s strict sustainability and envelope performance requirements to achieve its Net Zero energy status.
