The Hudson Yards Development project is a transformative process, aiming to reconstruct its former desolate railyard into a dynamic neighborhood of modernity, sustainability, and culture. As part of the development, 55 Hudson Yards, designed by Kohn Pederson Fox, provides roughly 1.3 million sq.ft. in office space in a 51-story tower. Recently completed, this tower, along with others, stands as the pride of the first phase of the greater Hudson Yards development.
55 Hudson Yards’ quiet, yet striking facade was designed to be integrated with Manhattan’s contemporary architecture, while alluding to its industrial context of West Chelsea and the Meatpacking District. The modulation of its gunmetal, cast-iron frames shift in scale between the podium and tower fronts to create visual variations in contrast to its consistent grid. The podium includes several large modular frames that serves as the lobby entrance, facade transitions, and terraces.

Additional Information
Büro Ehring worked in close liaison with Pohl Facades, performing structural engineering services for the detail and fabrication design of various exterior metal panel cladding elements for the tower, including the tower’s signature window portal panels.
