With the Expo Milano 2015’s theme “Feeding the Planet - Energy for Life”, the China Pavilion’s “Land of Hope” centers on ideas of sustainability and the coexistence of nature and cityscape. Close collaboration and a holistic approach to architecture, engineering, and fabrication enabled the realization of the vision of an almost floating wavy timber roof signature structure.
Designed as a free form timber structure, the Pavilion roof uses con- temporary glulam technology to create a long-span exhibition space covering a multi-media installation consisting of 22,000 LED stalks integrated into the landscape.

Additional Information
Expanding on Expo Milano 2015’s overarching theme, “Feeding the Planet – Energy for Life”, the project brought together craftsmen, designers, and engineers to utilize modern timber construction methods, showcasing the significance of sustainability while maximizing structural efficiency. The work consisted of full structural engineering design and schematic building enclosure design for the project.
