The “Incubator” proposes a series of mixed-use towers on the west side of Manhattan that foster interaction, sustainability, and engaged community activity; a deviation from the typical Manhattan residential tower, which creates an insular, private community. The ground plane is terraced and elevated to create an expanded unique public landscape for the towers’ residents and the local community.
Additional Information
The twisted geometries of the towers are informed by city and river views and daylight analysis, as well as structural optimization analysis and wind load considerations. Each towers’ forms transitions from a rectangular shape to a 5-sided one to minimize wind load magnitudes, especially at bigger heights. The work provided for this competition entry includes schematic structural design, structural optimization and form finding, and façade consulting.
