Vertical Village reimagines 1633 Broadway’s existing office tower by rethinking housing and traditional neighborhoods in the Midtown skyline. The project reconciles several challenges such as allowing light and air flow through the building, providing intermediate shared spaces for amenities and experiences, and reducing the overall embodied carbon footprint of the building by carving out mass from the center and reusing materials to build upwards. “Superfloors” designated for work, live, and play are created between the two “new” residential towers, acting as a structural and social catalyst in modern day standards of living and working.

Additional Information
Büro Ehring provides full structural engineering services and facade consulting and detailing for the project. The introduction of an exoskeleton structure acts as a braced frame for the new building structure and the demolition of the existing cores and center slabs, while being intentionally exposed through the new façade. The facade will be recladded with a unitized system of cast GFRG panels, designed with varying thicknesses that respond to the building’s solar orientation.
