The Museum of Modern Art’s current expansion project by Diller Scofidio + Renfro seeks to expand the Museum’s public spaces and galleries in order to provide greater public accessibility and to allow the Museum to reconceive of its collection and exhibitions. The expansion integrates the current building with the new Jean Nouvel tower at 53 W 53rd Street and the former American Folk Art Museum at 45 W 53rd Street.
Büro Ehring worked directly with the museum’s facade contractor Frener & Reifer on the expansion’s new curtain wall and metal panel rainscreen cladding systems. Büro Ehring has provided demolition engineering of the existing curtain wall where the expansion will tie into the Jean Nouvel tower, design assist and shop drawing production for the metal panel rainscreens, and thermal and condensation analysis for various new wall types and glazing throughout the project.
