Maya Lin Studio’s design for the renovation and expansion of the existing Neilson Library on Smith College’s campus seeks to re-imagine the library as an intellectual commons at the heart of the college. The design replaces the earlier 1962 and 1982 additions with new “jewel box” wings that offer open, inviting, light-filled spaces to enrich the interior learning environment while respecting the existing building’s historic significance.
Büro Ehring provides full construction facade engineering services to facade contractor, Roschmann Group, for the project’s new custom timber and glass curtain wall system. Working with the architects and fabricators, Büro Ehring has designed an innovative stick-built system utilizing BauBuche cross-laminated timber mullions and transoms and a structurally glazed curved and flat IGU system with double pane insulating glass and signature curved aluminum airfoil louvers.
