Completed in September of 2018, the “Unisphere” by EwingCole is the latest expansion of United Therapeutics biotechnology corporation’s headquarters in Silver Spring, MD. The 210,000 sqft elliptical shaped building is currently the largest site net zero energy commercial building in the United States and houses clinical research operations for pulmonary disease, heart failure, and organ transplantation.

Büro Ehring working closely with facade contractor Frener & Reifer on the building’s custom glass curtain wall system, Büro Ehring provides thermal modeling services, including U-Value calculations and analysis and condensation risk analysis for the unitized curtain wall, in order to meet the building’s strict sustainability and envelope performance requirements to achieve its Net Zero energy status.
